Off road we usually drop air pressure like you were on the dunes10-15 psi. A bigger footprint will kind of float on the snow.

Real, actual snow wheeling, tire chains actually make it worse. Like said above, lower the air pressure and try to create the biggest footprint possible to stay "on top" of the snow. If the snow is deep we'll go well into the single digits for tire pressure. Last outing we were in 5'-6' and we were running 3 psi in the tires.

Chains have great use on solid ice... or snow with ice under it, but in the snow they will dig you a grave if the snow is deeper than your frame. 10-15lbs and float! Very forgiving in the snow when you let some air out!

Like others said, if you have good tires and if you air down, you could drive on snow. It also depends on how deep it is and how icy it is. I avoid to wheel on ice with or without chains. We have lots of steep hills in our area and it is too risky. We sometimes go as low as 4-5 psi on snow. You just need to remember not to steer too much if you air down that low. Because you dont want to blow the bead out.
