I was actually wondering the same thing the other day. Google did not yield any other results except for the usual (Tuttle creek, Ft. Scott). Going around the Flint Hills sounds like it could be fun, as Newton isn't too far away.

Tuttle Creek is pretty decent, and you can definitely get stuck out there if you want. I've had my share of fun out there, been meaning to make it back here soon.

I would also like to see it on a map. I'm up in Atchison and haven't had a real chance yet to explore around here because of work but would love to know some other places in Kansas

Is flint hills a state / national park?

What are camping regulations there? I was thinking that it might be a good location for a small 'overland' trip.. even if it is mostly on trails.

Anybody heading on an adventure out of the KC area anytime soon? I just moved back to the area and want to get out and hit some trails. If it ever dries up that is.

I have encountered roads where 2 wheel drives cannot go. You drive enough in the Flint Hills and you will get deep water crossings, rocky and muddy roads, sand washes, etc.

Might want to take a GPS too.

And a winch can come in handy in the right (wrong) places.

Good luck!
How far south where you??? I tried this last weekend and it sucked, I found a map on http://www.backroadstouring.org/kansas/index2.htm and none of the trails where open. I couldnt find contact information to the land either. I would really enjoy a backroad trip to make in a day with the family.

Have you been to either of those? Hannibal looks pretty small.
