Do any of you know how to work this personalized plate business?

h ttp://www.tax.ok.gov/mvforms/749-09.pdf

I am reading this right... It takes 4 months to get a personalized plate, and it looks like this is a separate plate with it's own renewal date from my normal plate?

Also, I have to keep my normal plate in my Jeep at all times???

Is it me, or does this just sound back words?

mine only took about 3-4 weeks to get back after they accepted it ( and up to 4 months depending on their workload). yes it is separate renewal. and i think they prefer you to keep your org. plate in the vehicle. what words are you wanting to use backwards ??

Sure do. Have Oklahoma State Parks personalized tag on my JK and American Red Cross personalized tag on wife's Fusion. You fill in the form, alongwith the relevant documentation (in the case of the wife's ARC tag, she needed to provide proof that she worked for American Red Cross), copy of your ID, and the fee and mail it in. They say it does take upto 4 months, but you'll usually get it in around 6 weeks. It IS a separate plate that goes on the vehicle, BUT, you must still have your normal plates in the vehicle at all times - if you get pulled over, you must produce original plate or you'll get a ticket. When it comes time to renew tags, you'll have two renewals - one for the state tag, and the other for the personalized tag.

Did you fill out more than one choice? Any idea what they'd do if I only had one choice, and for some reason it was taken?

I'm kinda of the mindset that I wouldn't want a plate unless I could get the one I wanted, so no need to have 8 different "backup" choices, lol.

Good to hear that it may not take the full 4 months.

I wonder what they'd think if I just slapt my normal plate on the front bumper

Oh... missed that....

Yes... just seems backwords to have TWO plates. I don't mind the extra fees, but come on... now I have two things to renew on two different dates... geeh, this smells of insanity.

i think there are 6 different choices in case the one you want is taken they will use the next and then the next until they find one that isn't taken

If you have something specific, you can contact the toll free number on the form and ask them if that's available and they should be able to look that up for you. If you only fill in one option and it's taken, you won't get the tag and should get the check sent back to you or a refund.

As far as putting the normal plate on the front bumper, shouldn't be a problem. Oklahoma does not require a front plate but there's no restriction saying that you cannot have your regular tag there
