Just throwing this out here...

Does anybody know how our JKs calculates MPG? Any by "our", I mean "your", as mine doesn't have the in-dash display.

I am following a trail that looks like it leads to the on-board computer using the IAT sensor and some other sensors, and runs that through some math.... and out pops an MPG estimate.

Anyone every fiddled with their OBD port? Any clues what crazy science goes into this equation?

For reference, I found this quote out on the net:

A rough approximation of fuel use can be made through calculations on engine sensor data. Estimates on fuel consumption will be approximately equal to dividing the amount of airflow through the engine by 14.7, the stoichiometric ratio.20 Engine mass airflow may be determined either with an MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensor or through calculations on the MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) sensor.

Here is an interesting read, I've just scratched the surface

Humm... let me run some numbers here, tell me what you guys think...

2289 RPM x (57.0 kPa / 50.0 F') ---- Here I am assuming "Absolute temp" means the Intake Air Tempurate"

Engine Mass Airflow = 2289 RPM x 1.14 kPa/F' = 2609.46 RPMx(kPa/F') --- WTF is this unit

Fuel Mass = 2609.46 / 14.7 = 177.514 --- I gave up on units bob

So here I am with a fuel mass of 177.514, but I am not sure what a fuel mass is or how to go from here to MPG... still reading
