Default 15" vs 17" wheels

I need advice as to the Pro's and Con's to getting 15" or 17" wheels.
I'm thinking 15" tires are a little cheaper to purchase but do they hold up as well as the 17" tires off road. All input is appreciated.

15s hold up just fine. With a smaller wheel, you don't get as much rock damage when aired down (more tire for cushion).

not only cheaper but more sidewall with the shorter wheel. BUT. will a 15" mount on the JK straight up or do you have to make some changes like spacers or something? i understood that a 16" would work but not a 15". would really like to know because i am about to order wheels and tires for my 2 dr and would prefer 15"ers.

the place where I just had the lift done today, they are saying that with a 15"/8 wheel with 3.5" BS, that I won't need any spacers. I'm not going to get the wheels and tires yet, just thought I'd get some opinions on the wheels and go from there.

that would be great if they are correct. a 15" bogger is about 100.00 cheaper than a 17" here. would make a big difference in the type and size tire for the bucks.

The 17's will make your Jeep look "bigger/taller" but the 15's will make your tires look bigger. Really, both are great choices. With 15's though, you must have a minimal backspacing of 3.75 inches or else it will interfere with the brake caliber.

Why not go with 16's? Practically every off road tire size is made for 16's. Figure they're you can increase the backspacing if you want your tires more flush with the fender flares, but still off the bigger tire look and less likely to take a rock when wheeling, unlike the 17's; not that they're more prone to taking dents. Just a thought.

Joe good to hear you got your Rubi lifted! We ran the stock 32" on 17x9 and they worked out great in the short term. Eventually we upgraded to 35" and now we love it, less rock wear on the rims.
