Any problems with 15x8 rims on the new jk? Any backspacing recommendations?

My Pro Comp 8179s have 3.75" backspace and there was no rub with 33" tires at full lock. Others with more backspace have had rub.

A few 15" can have problems with brake rub.

What size tires do you plan on going with?

I've run 2 sets of 15x8's on my JK so far, both fit fine. I had 15x8 Cragar Soft 8's with 4.0" backspacing and now have 15x8 ION 170's with 3.5" backspacing.

I have Cragar Soft 8's 15x8 with 4" back spacing, and I had to grind a LOT down on my front brake calipers. they fit fine now Since others have not had this issue, I'm wondering if it is something to do with my build date being so early?? My build date is: Fri Aug 18 2006

if you pull one of the front wheels, my brake calipers stuck out about 1/2 inch past my brake hub. not sure if others do or not, but that part had to get grinded down b/c you couldn't even spin the wheel once the lugs where hand tight. I also had to grind about 1/4 of an inch off the top of the calipers, and more off the top corners.

Question :

I still have ( from an old TJ project) a set of 37 X 12,5 X 15
Good Year Wrangler MTRs laying in my garage.Brand new.

My plan is to mount these on my new two door JK RUBICON.

Any recommandations regarding the wheels ? I want a safe set up with no brake caliber rubbing, alloy spacers ..........

Thanks

Chris

I just this week had 15x8 Cragar Soft 8's mounted. NO issues with 33x10.5-15 BFG AT's.
You should be fine. ThinkMud it seems had an isolated issue, as many others are running these wheels, despite Cragar not even thinking they'll fit (my tire guy believed and got the order in despite Cragar arguing with him?!)

Steel wheels are the safest as far as durability from impacts if that what you're asking...?

you have a lift already chosen?

I also have the ProComp 8179 15 x 8 in the 5x5 bolt pattern and 3.75 bs with 33 BFG Mud Terrain. No rubbing for normal driving. With the front sway bar disconnected at full articulation you could expect a little rubbing without a lift. I have no lift yet. I will put on the TF 2.5 bb soon and this will fix my trail issue.

Just because this joker did it, don't think that grinding on calipers to make wheels fit is a good idea. I know that Jeep would have spent the money on all that iron if they didn't think it was important.
