Default 2011 DOT tires

Hey gents a local tire shop has bfg km2 37" tires for $845 for 4 because they were made in 2011 but they are new. Tire shop said they stay good for 5 years in a warehouse and can have a 10 year life use total. Just wondering if this is true since it is my daily driver. Didn't want a blow out on my 6k mile road trip next year. Will by a 5th tire for a spare. Just wondering if the tire shop is right.

There probably isn't a correct answer, just a lot of opinions, but i think that warranty would be my big concern. I like knowing that a tire will be replaced if there is a problem. (my last set of tires, 3 out of 5 developed cracks between the tread blocks going down to the core. If I had bought five year old tires... ) Just something to consider along with any other facts.

Warranty doesn't matter I leave germany in a few months so it wouldn't be honored anyways.
