Default Insulation

Can anyone tell me if there is a practical reason for keeping the insulation under my hood?

I think it's mostly a sound baffle to cut down on engine noise in the interior of the Jeep. I would think in 4lo in offroad scenarios it might cause overheating issues. I know when I'm wheeling my engine creates so much heat you can't touch anything under the hood with out burning yourself.

I think it's just too reduce the engine noise. Mine didn't have it when I bought it. I took the engine cover off too. I like being able to see my engine.

There's no practical reason to keep the hood pad in place.

I tossed mine as soon as it got muddy. That was about two months into ownership. its just a noise baffle. But, I also question the insulation properties. Why would you want to keep the heat inside. Just saying.

Hood blankets and vented hoods
How does anyone think that a 4 sided compartment open on 3 sides and the bottom....with a high speed fan in front can hold heat any better than if the hood is completely removed. Now my head hurts from banging it against my desk. The fan is only there to cool the rad when not moving forward

Default Not just for noise and heat

The insulation is designed to smother under hood fires by falling over the engine bay after the plastic retaining clips melt.

Nope. It's a "55361338AE, PAD, Hood Silencer", according to Chrysler. Nothing to do with fire suppression.
