Does this mean that option number two might come about for these in the future?

Or no love for real gains?
It's a mixture of the two. Judging from past experience with my 09 JK, the trans shifts were so much smoother, the overall drivability was improved. The diablo tuner does help a tad more for cai and exhaust (custom tune), but nothing significant. Overall, it's a very welcome improvement to the drivability. Oh and mpg boost is nice as well..

I loved the superchips on my 09. But diablo beat them to the punch w/ the 11-beyond. I wouldn't be so excited for a tuner had I not known what it was like already with my dog slow 3.8.
