After less that a year on Pro Comp 35x12.5 R15's I recently replaced them with same brand/style in a 33x12.5 set. So far I'm much happier with the 33" mud tires.

My gas mileage sucked on 35's. 12 mpg just blows. Braking distance is longer and acceleration is really slow. So far no damage but I did worry about bending and axle tube or breaking something every time I dropped off a log or got bound up on a rock.

Heavily belted and lugged radial mud terrains are big heavy tires with high rolling resistance. I can pick up the 33's on a rim with one hand, the 35's were a bear to pick up and move around. Big difference in weight alone.
Rolling 35's was fun for awhile but just became impractical for a daily driving rig with stock axles.

I'm ok with the 1" less pumpkin clearance in exchange for better MPG, handling and tourque. 33" tires may not be as "cool" as 35 or 37" tires but I don't really care. My Jeep can make it through the muddy ORV parks around here just fine.

Need to figure an extra $2k+ between re-gearing and and an aftermarket bumper and tire carrier, and thats still before the cost of the tires and wheels (cheaper if you want to stay with spacers). Since I got my 33's and BB I've been chipping away at other things. Diff covers, bumpers, skids, lights, winch, lockers, snorkel, all things that add up real quick, but everyone's priorities and budgets are different. Good luck!

Edit: meant to add in that 35's definitely do look way more aggressive and I have a feeling I will step up to those once my 33's wear out, but by that time I'm hoping to have taken care of most of the other mods and upgrades I mentioned above. But in the meantime I'm still having fun with my 33's!
You don't have to re-gear or get after market bumpers for 35's.
A 35" tire fits perfect on the stock tire carrier and people here go apeshit over gears.
I run 37's with 4.10 gears without any problems. I know people on different forums that run 37's with 4.10 gears that wheel EVERY weekend without problems.

You're right - no one HAS to do anything. You can run 35's with stock gears and stock carrier if you want. But it has been proven on here plenty of times that a stock carrier is very likely to crack or break with the added weight of a 35 on it. And like LOST just mentioned above, 35's on stock gears will drive your mpg down and gears can at least get a portion of that back. For dd's 12 mpgs can get pretty expensive real quick. Just my $.02. Again its all in priorities and budget of what you want to do.

That's true but we didn't buy our Jeeps for the gas mileage, or at least I hope not.

Default hmm

i think the topic got little off target. I been seeing different lifts on the jeeps with 33's or 35's but it hard to get a good feel when everyone has different lift heights.

I split the difference and went with 34" (305/70/17) no lift, fender trim, 1.5" wheel spacers.

I was going to ask...why not compromise with 34's? Yours looks really good, by the way.
