Default 33s and 5.13s

I know that 5.13s on 33in tires is overkill. my theory is get the lockers and gears first. enjoy the awsome crawl ratio, than when i have money jump to 4" and 37s.

my question is does anyone have or ever had this?
i know its a shot in the dark but i just wanted opnions on how it handles

ive been running this setup for almost 6 months now. I got them because i pull a heavy trailer almost every other weekend. its definetly a whole different animal with the small tires but i like it however 95% of my driving is less than 65mph.

Assuming that you have 4.10 gears now, a gear chart shows that at 65MPH you should be at about 2700RPM with 33" tires. The same chart shows 3400RPM with 5.13 gears.

The chart also shows 35" tires w/ 5.13 gears at 3200RPM @ 65MPH.

You should also consider drive-shaft speed. Your DS's will be turning substantially faster than stock with 5.13's and 33" tires. You can do a search to get more info on that as it has been resently discussed.

My experience is with 35's and 5.13 gears my speedo at 70MPH is at 3100RPM. While I enjoy the power this setup gives me, I don't drive the jeep every day and it doesn't see that many highway miles. I think 5.13's with 33 tires would be to much gear or not enough tire for highway driving.

my train of thought runs around alot. i came from the stock 29" tires and 4.10s. when i jumped up to the 33s it.....well sucks. im not worried about DS if that goes the factory will fix it under warrenty, and if not its just another upgrade.

im more concerned about the tranny more than the DS. its been shifting in odd places even with the O/D off and i have had to replace the tranny once already. dont wanna do it again. hoping that by installing the gears i will see a normal shift pattern, not all the downshifting, and also at the same time have a good setup for 37s

RescueX ran his for a while with that setup. His engine would be zinging on the highway.

Have you used a programmer to adjust your speedo and shift points? I have a 6-speed so I don't have experience with the shift points, but I know that many others have adjusted them and had success. I also wouldn't downplay DS speed. Several people have grenaded their transfer cases this way.
