i have used a programer and recalibrated everything. i know trailbud blew his, but they were aftermarket, and redneckjeep pointed out that you have to balance a DS up to a a certian speed, and that if you have 4.10s and balance the DS, getting 5.13s would increase the amount of spin by (enter mathamatical number and equation) causing it to implode.

so what your saying is that its not viable to do this set up? im asking advice so dont take my remaks above negativly i would only be running it till i get enough money for the lift and tires. i think trail bud was running his for awhile as a heavily modified jeep.

I wanted to make sure that you understand about DS speed and your post above shows that you are informed on it. There is no question that Trailbud's jeep is heavily modified. It's funny that you use him as an example because, I was with him last week when he broke his track bar bracket off the axle. https://www.jk-forum.com/forums/jk-trails-tales-71/project-jk-big-bear-gold-mountain-run-04-25-09-a-83483/

In terms of if your proposed setup is viable, yes I believe that it is. It will have limitations, but you appear to understand that. I personnally would do the 5.13's at the same time that you do the tires. I am also assuming that you have the Dana 44's.

well here is where i get caught up. i have the X. again refering to trail bud how he snaped his teeth on his ring, that has always been a thought in my head. i was considering buying a D60 for upfront, but couldnt justifly the money for something i use on the road 85% of the time. i know the 5.13s pinion is SMALL. tiny compared to my 4.10s but i figured what the hell

Oh boy, yet another what gear thread! And you Green with an auto takin' advice from someone with a six speed. They're two different animals! Totally!. The auto with 33's is made for 5.13's. It's a beautiful thing. Screw the charts, they don't know what they're talking about when you add in your overdrive. If you want actual rpm numbers do a search. I posted'em somewhere here, but am too lazy to find them right now. Nowhere under 70 do they go over 2300. If you're not one to testosterone yourself over every obstacle, you're not going to have to worry about breaking your pinion. 33's, 5.13's, had'em, loved'em, sort of miss them with my 35's. Do get the AEV Procal and set up your speedo/shift points correctly though.

Listen to Seer1. He loved his auto/33"/5.13 combo. I've got the auto/35"/5.13 combo and wish I had 5.38's. Go ahead and pull the trigger on the 5.13's; you won't regret it - unless you end up with 37's!

How about 37's and then a Rubicrawler to replace the tailshaft of your transmission. That might only be a bit more than the Atlas for both.

Here is the link that Seer1 was talking about. He helped me out with my gear selection and posted his Speed and RPM.
