Default Are 33's too much for 3.73s on a 2012?

I have a 2012 Sahara on order and am looking to put a more aggressive/larger tire on as soon as it arrives. It was ordered with the max tow package (3.73 gears). I understand that I'll lose some performance but am curious as to how much I should expect to lose. Are 33's too big for 3.73 gears on a 2012 considering that there is 83 more hp over the 2011?

it shouldn't be my buddy has a 07 JK sport with a 3" lift and 33X12.5' mud tires on it stock 4spd auto and stock gears, the Rubicon can have 3.73's in it as an option for the Auto and they come stock with 32's

Just installed a 2 inch AEV kit on a 2012 Sahara for fun stuck a set of old 35's I have in the back room I have mounted in my old stock rims fit fine with a little front air dam trimming.
It rode excellent and great power.

It'll be fine, especially with the Pentastar. I had 33's and 3.73 on my 2011 and it's lethargic 3.8L and it did pretty well.

I have 35's on my 08 and run it up I-70 in the Rockies all the time. I'm not passing everyone but I can certainly keep up. You wont even feel a difference with 33 and that engine I bet.

ID:	245208The 35x12.5x17 MTR's We installed two nights ago on my friends 2012 JKU with max tow package and 3.73 gears rode and drove great.
I was really surprised with only a 2 inch lift and minor trimming of front air dam.

I'm sure it would be fine, especially if you have a manual tranny. Friend has that setup on a 2010 , with the 3.8 and it's decent. With the new motor it should be great!

Default 2011 with 33s

I have a 2011 with 33s and 2 inch lift. JK is currently geared at 3:73. No engine mods have been made (No chip, K&N, etc) I recently took a road trip of about 2000 miles.

I think the sweet spot for me was around 2K RPM which left me at about 70 MPH. I saw a decrease in gas mileage at speeds above that. Running at 80, I would get 12-13 MPG. Running at 70, I would get 15.

I am sure that the 2012 engine will be better.

Hope this helps.

ok this guy is asking about people who have 2012's and 3.73 max tow package. I have a 2010 and Im not comparing mine to what he's asking. Like I said the last two posts, two nights ago installed a 2 inch AEV kit on a 2012 JKU and just for fun put on my OLD 35x12.5x17 MTR kevlars on his Jeep. All we had to do is trim the air dam a little and took it for a test drive. The power is great and it rides and handles great as well.
