Default 34's on stock wheels with TF BB

Hey there, I am new to this forum and new to jeeps, first off I have been on this site for a long time just browsing and if this question has already been answered then I apoligize in Advance.

Now, the question is, will the goodyear mtr's , 285/75/17 fit on my stock wheels and not rub. I have heard that they are narrow enough that they dont. I am a casual off-roader, I am installing the TF BB in a couple days.I am trying to find a good wheel/tire combo that wont totally kill my jeep. I have looked at new wheels as opossed to the wheel spacers but would consider the stock wheels if they dont rub with 34's.
I am also curios what you guys have to say from experience with big tire on the "x" model jeep.
any input and info I can get would be great.
Thanks
Chandler

Default Problem reading your post

I don't know if this is only my monitor (laptop) but I can't read your post because of the color selection of your text. If anyone else can read, it let me know, and I won't say anything more.

i had a tough time reading it too.

I'm running the same size tire with no rubbing. It did rub a very tiny amount on the sway bar at a tight turn but I fixed that with a couple of washers behind the turn stops.

As far as full flex is concerned, there are others running the TF BB with 35" tires so you should be ok.

Default you will probably need 1.5" wheel spacers...

I have an unlimited X, TF BB, ~34's and spidertrax 1.5's and it still rubs (rubbed) on my useless under-bumper-air-thingy.

Yes I do have stock wheels with no spacers. You can see my jk here:

I tossed the stupid plastic air dam right away. I think it looks better without it but you could trim it easy enough if you wanted to keep it.

Okay, so now my next question, how is your jeeps performance with this setup, I have the "x" with the stock gears, what can I expect from the 34's?, how is the gas mileage?
thanks, I appreciate the help...

Default good news and bad news...

Good = in 4wd low I have done some moderately aggressive climbing, mudding, etc. Works great. It's got several inches more body clearance and an inch or two more axle clearance.

Bad = mileage and performance loss.

Gas mileage is ~13 city and 14.5 hwy. I am also looking into re-gearing to make up for torque loss. I have an automatic, and I sometimes have to turn off the overdrive to maintain 75-80 mph.

gerryc, do you have the 3.21s or 3.73s?
I know 3.73s aren't that much better, but that's what I have.
Also, what was your gas mileage before the tire change (how much did it drop)?

Default Axle ratio and mileage

I've got 4.10's.

I didn't do any real measurement before the tire swap, but I am pretty sure I have lost at least 2 MPG.

But... I am running 305 70 17's - which are beefier than the 285 75's mentioned above in this thread. Mine look way chunkier/heavier.
