Default 35/12.5/17 vs 315/70/17

I've been curious as to the advantage of one vs the other aside from the E - D load rating. I get that the E has thicker side walls than the D but the negative to that is weight. The height of the 35 is .23" talled, but the 315 has .06 more width. Seems like all I see are 35's and almost no one running 315's. Is this an 'ego' thing about the 35" stamped on the sidewall or is this dude missing something?

Some tires only come in one or the other. I would consider them the same and get the tire you want. If it an ego thing, people have some serious issues.
