Northridge also sells this one: http://www.northridge4x4.com/proddet...od=MBRP-130718

I also found this one that claims to add increased support to prevent tailgate damage: http://www.quadratec.com/products/22202_1001.htm

I appreciate the offer, but I will probably go with one of these inexpensive options or splurge on a bumper/carrier!

This looks interesting, but how is it any less weight on the hinges? I thought that was were the extra weight of a 35" tire really caused problems. The stock carrier itself is doing fine on mine....it's the hinges I worry about.

Theres also the Or-fab tire carrier- http://www.*********.com/forum/f96/f...nstall-602942/

and the AEV tire carrier- http://www.quadratec.com/products/12049_201X_PG.htm

Both seem to work with stock rear bumper

Or the Hanson Offroad tailgate tire carrier... I guess there would still be the weight on the hinges, but it's more sitting directly on on the hinges and not pulling at the hinges and causing sagging.

Default I have a solution for you...

Do what I did...plug in a sawzall and cut the third brake light off and then get a spacer, $40 at rugged ridge, and the tire mounts to the stock tailgate just fine. I think the 3rd brake light looks like crap to begin with.

When the door is closed this isn't the issue - The problem starts when the extra weight is on the tire carrier it bounces around creating metal fatigue around the spot welds...the welds around the tire mount seem to be the most concern. This design will spread the load better on the tire carrier and help eliminate the bouncing of the tire which is where the problem starts. The hinge can support the weight...and I was under the impression the hinges were bolt through not spot welded. I could be wrong I haven't taken mine apart.

I don't know, I think you may be right. If so, I would buy one of these set-ups, provided my hinges don't start to fatigue after a few months. I hope it works for you.
