I noticed a bit of a rattle from the gate...seemed like it was groaning from the extra weight of the tire. I thought that over time the weight would adversely affect the gate. So I changed my rear bumper order to include the tire carrier. The tire carrier has other uses too like CB mount, hilift mount, etc.

About 5000 miles and no problems. The spare actually rests nicely on the factory bumper, giving it a little support.

At a jeep jamboree with another JK I saw a 35 cause a nice wrinkle in the door when the tire "bounced" while doing some pretty serious off roading.
