Depending on WHAT you're installing, that is a little high. If you're talking just throwing either new springs on or adding some budget boost pucks to your current springs, new shocks, brake line extenders, and even bump stops, that should be more like $250. $500 would be a little more reasonable if you're doing a full set of control arms in addition, but doesn't sound like that would be the case. My advice would be to buy a budget boost for $239 on Northridge4x4 (after "jkforum" discount code), watch a couple videos, and install it yourself. Can be done easily with some hand tools. In the future if you upgrade to a real lift, you can sell the BB parts for $125 -$150 to someone in your current situation.

Sorry but incorrect. A 35 definitely fits on the stock carrier of a JK.

Personally I know dozens who run 35s on the stock carrier. And I've done the same on both my JKs

Mine did not, not even close. Mine hit the bumper and the light. I have 35" Cooper st maxx. We just did 35s on copyguy's Rubicon and no way his 35 would have fit either. He used my old spacer thing that brings the tire up and out. It gave him not quite an inch clearance on the stock bumper and what looked like a half inch on the light. (Which is now blocked by his tire) Not sure why we are getting different results, but a good many people's jeeps I've personally worked on are in this forum and dozens in my FB group page.

With that said, we may be defining "fit" differently 😁. I like having factory clearances on things because of my OCD. So if it's scraping the bumper and you have to kick it to close the tailgate, that's a no-go for me. I went with the HD hinge and tire carrier and relocated my plate and light as a permanent fix and to maintain DOT requirements.

"can" and "should" are very different things. I personally would not run a 35" spare on the stock carrier. Are the hinges going to collapse on you the first day.....no, but it adds unnecessary stress that was not intended. Is it possible to have a 400lb lady ride cowgirl on you? sure, it's possible, would you really enjoy that? Most likely not.

It might be possible that the stock bumper on the JKs in Australia are different? I'm not sure... but there's definitely tonnes of us here that run it like that without issue

This is really the solution. Spend money on a nice, REAL lift kit, even if it isn't very tall. Tires and a lift can be a net improvement for your Jeep, cutting corners will not help anything.

I'd like to think so! We don't have trails like the Rubicon, or rock crawling like MOAB. But we have a lot of places to explore, and enough difficult obstacles to keep it interesting. I'm in New South Wales, and I have several large national parks (they're huge) within 4 hours driving, and they're amazing to see and wheel in.
