In the end I would prefer a rubi take off if I was going to a D44 or an already built d44. Would not buy from aftermarket company. Definitely not at retail price.

As that thread shows, building a d30, or buying and then building a factory d44, can put you in the price range of one of the aftermarket d44's. That is why so many people are buying them, it just makes more sense than dumping 4 or 5 grand into a factory axle.

Just depends on how beefed you want it, what prices you find, and whether you can do any of the work yourself. Add it all up before you write-off anything aftermarket, you just might find yourself with a pair of Ultimate 60's...

a built axle with gearing of my choice under 2k is interesting for sure I'll have to look into it.
Not built. He is using factory rubi front housings and filling them with factory rubi parts. Instead of factory gears, there may be an option of different ratios. From the posts I have read about it, there is no option for sleeves/truss/gussets/balljoints etc.

Of course that's a needle in a haystack.

You can beef your 30 for under 2 grand including a truss or pay 5 grand for a pr44. You will not get even close to 3 grand of improvement over your built 30 so I would skip the pr44 and go to a 60 if I was going to buy a whole new axle set up.

You can buy a new Rubi axle with 4.56 gears for less than you can regear and lock your stock axle. And then you can sell the D30 and it will be even less. A guy in OH sells new Rubi axles (complete) with whatever gears you want. $1650. Then sell the D30 for $600-$700. Net cost: $1000 and you have a D44 and all new parts.

Can the factory locker be wired to the sPod and be fully usable without hassle.

I tried doing this as a work around for the lockers only in 4lo. The answer, as far as I found was no. I even contacted the s-Pod guys who confirmed no. When I hooked it up it kept my lockers on. They said because the s-pod is always powered, there was no way to get the lockers off. Someone else may have figured a work around, as I am no electrical engineer.
