Question 37s and new axles????

All...

With the JKs "Super D44" axles, are they strong enough to run 37s long term?

Obviously 4.88s or higher would be necessary to turn the pumpkins as well.

Thoughts?

So far so good on mine... But I think 37's will be the limit, but only time will tell

I think running 37s on blinged out D44s is fine just take it easy and always be prepared for a break (carry spare shafts and joints). Upgrade to chromo shafts and run CTM U-Joints up front. Check and replace ball joints as needed. A Rear 9" or D60 would be ideal for 37s but that can get spendy. Good Luck!

finally someone who realizes the stress big tires can cause on axles too many people on here running 37s on the dana 30's and 35's! you should be good for a while on the 44's depending on how hard you wheel ur rig

I do agree with you, D44 or D60 is much better, and your correct, a lot of folks running big meats on D30's, but they haven't started a ( I broke my axle from my 35 or 37's) thread yet. It might come, but some of these guy's are wheeling very hard & none broke or they haven't admitted yet.

From what iv heard the new 44s are 32 spline and much stronger. They are more of the strength of the old dana 60s. You shouldn't have problems with 37s on the new 44s. Granted there are always situations where lots of friction + lots of power/speed = disaster.

rear yes, front Oh hell no

The weakness in the front is the stub shaft, there is just not enough meat on that to "safely" run larger than 35's or 35's and drive ummm..like I do (i gotta fix that)
There should be a hub/stub upgrade sooner or later like they have for the TJ. I personally will not run bigger than a 35 on a dana 30, there is too many weak points for large tires.

This is one of the places that the new rear 44 was upgraded. The pinion gear is larger than previous Dana 44's, but only in the rear. From what I understand the front 44 is the standard 30 spline inners 1-5/16" diameter, but 32 spline outers and I think they are the same 1-1/4 diameter also. I could be wrong here, maybe Superior will jump in with the actual stats.

Anyway to clarify I think you can run 37's within reason (not getting stupid on the skinny peddle) on the Rubicon only, and 35's if you have the front Dana 30.

37's is where I will draw the line personnally until there are more reports on how these new axles hold up to some abuse

I think its all on the driver, to know when not to floor it.

Guys in my club have ran 37's on the TJ D30,35 set up locked with no problems...

other seem to snap shafts driving on the street on 33's...
