38s on a budget
Hi everyone. I was thinking of stepping up to 38 inch tires right off the bat. I'm still all stock, but I am starting a job this summer mainly to get money to modify my jeep with. So my questions are:
What are the best 38s on a budget
What size suspension
Wheel size
Any other hardware required
Overall cost for all of this
Based on what info I can gather I may or may not choose to run 38s now. I eventually want to have my rig on 40s so I thought this might be a good starting point.
Thanks for any input

Gears: $1000-2000
Tires and wheels: $1500-3000
Very least gussets, shafts, truss wouldn't hurt etc: $500
Driveshafts:$300-800
Suspension: (good 4 inch kit with a ton of trimming) anywhere from $600-2500
Trackbars, heavy duty ball joints etc..... $500
If you do it right it all adds up fast..

The FAQ's have some good general info.
Then do a quick search for any posts by Planman. In his sig is a link to a low cog build thread for getting on 37's, which has morphed to 40's. That would be a great start.
And then do some searches on axle builds to start your edumacation on strength upgrades you will want to run that size tire. Or the threads on aftermarket 60's. Or building junkyard 60's/14b's. Or? (at least I hope you aren't planning on running 40's on a stock d30.)

Like was said earlier when you get over 35's things get expensive if you do it right. If you want to be on 38's and actually wheel it your probably going to be into the Jeep for at least $5000. You figure most 37's are right around $400 so if you get 5 tires theres $2000 just in tires. To clear 38's your going to want probably 4 inches of lift. A lift that size is going to run you right around $2000. Then figure in front and rear driveshafts, that's about $1000. Figure in 5 new wheels theres at least $600. With 38's at the very least you are going to want to reinforce the front axle with c gussets and truss or sleeves, that's just $400 in parts. That gives you some sort of idea as to where this is going and that doesn't figure in install. If you just want the look you can do it cheaper but if you want to use it and be reliable it is definitely going to get expensive.
