Default 4.10 Gears??

My '08 2 dr X 6-speed has the 3.21 gears, a D30 up front and a D44 in the back. I'm running 33" BFG M/T's and don't plan on going bigger. My lift is the RE 2.0 coil spacer with RE monotube shocks and JKS discos. I run mainly 2.0~3.5 rated trails.

I have two questions....

- what do you think about running 4.10 gears with my set up?

- do you think I need to add anything to beef up my axles or lift if I install the 4.10 gears?

Thanks for your inputs....

I wouldn't think your lift has much connection to what gears you install. As to axles, I don't know. I have 4.88 in an auto with D30 front and D44 rear with stock axles without any problems so far.

I'm running 33s and 4.10s and six speed. Most of the time it's just fine. However, throw heavy vehicle weight, highway and high winds together, and I sometimes wish I had a bit lower gearing. If I was paying someone to install gears and the 4.10s were free and another set cost me typical money, I'd spend the extra coin. As for mod's to beef up: I run some pretty tough trails on occasion and have not had a problem (yet!). I do plan to eventually gusset the Cs on the D30.

Not to toot my own horn, but the gear ratio chart in the FAQ is much more functional, and isn't limited to 1:1 gear ratios.

33s and factory 4:10s. 6th is unusable on the hw unless flat or downhill.

That sounds almost exactly like what you would experience with an uncalibrated speedometer. If you aren't using a programmer or calibrator.

GPS verify your speed and post the results.

Okay... after more research and reading the post here, I believe 4.88 gears would work better with 33's and a 6-speed. It seems to be a good compromise between mileage and performance. Agree or disagree?
