4.5" or 5" backspacing wheel? It matter?
Dumb question... Currently running Rubicon wheels, 1.5" SpiderTrax and 285/75s.
Tires are flush with fenders.
Looking to buy Fuel Trophy in 17x8.5... Not sure on what BS to get, 4.5" or 5"?
Will use still use 285s, but eventually will go to 315/70(35s)... Maybe 37s..Maybe
Don't want to stick out extremely far from fender but don't want to rub... Do have 2.5 lift installed. When had our 2012, had 35s on 15" MB rims from DTD.. Would I stick out that far?

Stock rims are supposed to be around 6.25" backspace. Minus the 1.5" spacer = 4.75" effective bs right now. Assuming swapping the same tires onto new rims, the 5 bs would pull the tire sidewall bulge in 1/4", the 4.5bs would move it out 1/4".
For your current 33's, either 4.5 or 5 would be fine. For a 35" tire, 4.5" bs is the typical recommendation. For 37's, a 3.5" bs might be more appropriate. (if you end up with 37's, just reinstall the spacers...)

Agree with the above. If you honestly think there is a good possibility that you will run a 37, do yourself a favor and buy the correct wheels the first time around. I have some Fuel wheels with 4.5" backspacing. They were perfectly fine for 35s. With 37x12.5 Nitto Trail Grapplers I rub my Ace inner liners a bit due to too much backspacing and the reluctance to run a spacer. I'd not like to see a 13.5 wide tire on em. My wheels have been all eaten up by the rocks so not much resale value in em. Wish I had just done it differently to begin with.

Yes, will be sticking with 35s top, don't want to go and redo things on the jeep

Long time lurker here and I've got a similar question. I'm installing a 2.5" bb with 35x12.5x20 Toyo Open Country M/T's on my rig. I'm ordering Moto Metal's 962. The dealer is telling me 5" of BS is enough after I told him the requirement is 4.5". I'm literally only going to use this as a daily with maybe the occasional light trail a few times a year. Is he right that I can roll with a 5" BS or do I need to search out that extra .5" of space? The wheels they have are 20x9 with 5" bs, but Moto's website says they have the 20x10 with the 4.56" BS.
Thanks

Looking to do 315/70R16 (34.5") on 8" rims with 4" backspacing. Also have 2.5 teraflex coil lift. My question is am I ok with the 8" rims as they don't seem to come in 9" for the ones I want (Procomp 7069) and is 4" backspacing about right for 34.5 tires? Thanks
