Im regearing my rig as well. Im in the same boat as a lot of you so, this is good info. My 2012 Jk has 3:21 w/6spd manual tranny. One question that might be answered here. Anyone have 4:56's with 33" tires? I ask because I literally just bought new 33" MTZ's two weeks ago. I was so disappointed with the 33" Pro Comp A/T Xtremes I had since it was new, that I had to get rid of them. I know, should've considered 35" but I didn't.

X2 no need to go to 4.56 if that's as big a tire as you go. I'm running 4.10 with 37's on my Rubicon (with the 4.0 transfer case of course). I will regear down the road but thats because I want to crawl slower like it did with 32s. I had 3.21's on my sport with 32s and did great in 4 lo. With the 3.6 you can get away with going a few sizes bigger because of the extra rpm and torque.

I'm not sure how I feel about this. I had 4.88’s in my 08 running 35’s and it was too low. Mostly because i as running km2’s at 33.5"
I don't think the 3.8 was as happy at 3k as the 3.6 is. I'm thinking about gearing toward the lower end again since the 3.6 does seem to be a little more at home in the higher rpm's. Not sure if it's got a higher rpm efficiency than the 3.8 or not.

I'm having 4.56s installed right now. I've got a '13 2 door manual that I DD. Its a sport that had 3.21s, I added Rubi take off wheels and tires which I really like a lot. I'm regearing for power but I'm mainly into expedition stuff so I intend to stay with my 32s at least until they wear out and perhaps pick up another set since they are so cheap ($800 for 5 wheel/tire). I think most here are concerned about under gearing where I am more concerned with over gearing. I hope I didn't go to low for my use with 32s. One thing I have considered is buying a used set of 35s on cheap rims and running them only when I wheel. I don't mind swapping out tires and can do it pretty quick. Adding an eaton e-locker in the rear as well. I'm pretty excited to get it back tomorrow night.

Why ARE the 4.10's more expensive? Is there a valid reason?

4.56 are a bit low for 32 but if your going to 35's then it makes sense

I can only assume supply and demand. I think that 4.56s were fairly expensive as well before 2012 but as more people are gearing less with the 3.6 the demand has gone up so more shops are making them. It makes sense in my mind at least.

I was thinking about this again last night and I'm going to have to play around a bit with tire size. If I could have found rubicon take off axles I would have absolutely gone that route and know I would have been happy with 4.10s but it seems like all the ones I found were super expensive or totally trashed or just empty shells. I'm into my re-gear $1,900 ($580 for gears + minor rebuild kits, $850 eaton e-locker, $90 front open carrier, $400 installation) I could have been only $300 on labor if I wanted to pull the axles but decided it was worth my time and the headache to leave them on. The closest I got with take offs was about $4,500 but that would have given me a front locker as well. My buddy just spend $1,800 on wheels and tires. I don't want to spend that much on rubber.
