Default 4.7 V8

Anyone Think Of The 4.7 V8? The New One Is Like 300 Horse Power. I Would Think It Is Pretty Cheap Also.

My wifes Commander has this engine, not sure of the 300hp but it's very quick. You probablly could get one from a salvage yard but I'm not sure of all the other components that would be required like tranny and mounting brackets and drivelines and axles and wiring and....

Does the Commander (auto) use the same tranny as the wrangler?

It may use the same transmission.....but surely it wouldn't have the same bell housing pattern. The V6 is a 60 degree and the V8 is a 90 degree.

the 4.7 would cost as much as a hemi conversion. it is also wider then the 5.7 and uses the same 5 speed auto as the hemi. you would need to make new frame brackets for the motor, the wireing will not be simple either. if you do persue this route i would recommend a dakota engine trans donor with all the acc and electronics. there is a ho model not sure of the power tho for the money the 5.7 is more bang for youre buck.
