What is recommended?

 

If youre buying 5 new tires you might as well use all five. If you are buying four and pick up a used spare, that is different. Just my .02

 

I personally do a five tire rotation to have even wear on all tires and if I ever decide to get larger tires I don't have couple year old spare with no wear and I can run my tires longer without needing to replace.

I use this

 

No sense in leaving a perfectly good tire on the back to rot out. Rotate all five and extend the life of your tires.

 

As far as I know - driving with different sized tires on your axles is hard on the Jeep - If your tires are half worn and you have to throw on your spare, the you suddenly have a tire that can be 1/4 inch larger than the others...

I keep seeing ads on kijiji boasting about how the tires are half gone, but the spare has never touched the ground.. Just tells me you are rotating right and what else aren't ya doing?

When I get my oil changed, I rotate. $6 a tire - $24 vs $30 is a small price to get the best use of my tires.
