5.13 gears
was just thinking the same thing. In the end who cares who's right as long as we're all happy with the gears we run, I love my 5.38's. Gotta thank JPop for that chart he made

I have an advantage over some of the people on this board as I have the ability to drive anywhere ftom sea level to 6000ft in the same day(heck, within 1.5 hours). If I didn't drive outside the city limits of San Diego, stock gears and 35s might be ok. So those of you that live at 431ft, go ahead and spend your money on other stuff. If, like Planman(my wife lived in Gardiner and Livingston, she says hi), and others who have to go up hill just to get home from the grocery store, get the lower gears. When you have 3 teenagers, and $400 worth of groceries in the back, you'll be glad you did.

As you have stated, it's not a cookie cutter answer and that is what I have been trying to get others to understand but there is a disconnect for sure and way too much cherry picking of info and data.
Like you said, lower elevations and flat land you can get away with less gear which is exactly what I am saying.
It also depends on personal needs and uses. Frequent towing, hilly terrain, no need to go 75mph+, more gear (5.13s/5.38s). Lower elevations, flat land, higher cruising speeds, less gear (4.56/4.88). So again, I am not suggesting that a mere 35 HP at 1250 RPM will propel a JK down the freeway as others on this board have said. But I am asking people to be reasonable and use a little critical thinking when making their gear choices and not just blindly follow the masses like the cult mentality that is apparent.
Scouts Out!

With the data provided, it sounds like 3.73s.
Edit: went to jeep website and registered with my VIN. Confirmed the jeep was equipped with 3.73's. Good call JPop!
Thank you

Thanks for the info. I did find an online speedo correction calculator that suggests mph based on differing tire sizes. Actual speed calc'd to 73.4 mph.

I'm just jumping into this thread due to being out of country for a bit but I always love seeing people get fired up over this topic. I would never try to tell anyone what gear they should run because it really comes down to personal preference. Me personally, I want my JK to move when I push on the skinny pedal.
Let me start by saying I have a JK that has 4.10s and a Ripp SC and Ripp Headers. I live in lower elevation (677ft) and very flat (Centeral Illinois).
So I have a decent gear and lots of extra horse power and I still have to drive with over drive off while on the the highway. The only reason I do not have 5.13 gears in my JK right this second is the lack of an experienced shop near me. I have a complete overhual kit and Yukon gears sitting at the house just no place nearby to install them.
I honestly could not see how anyone would even want to stay with 4.10s unless they don't mind having a dog for a vehicle.
Keep in mind my other vehicle is a 68 Pontiac Firebird. Nevertheless, I can't stand my JK once I get around 65mph unless I have the OD off.
Just my opinion.

I hope his coffee pot is fixed by now !!
After reading all of this in one sitting, I now have a headache and I'm in need of Java. ( It's crappy outside and 'nuffin' else to do)
Can't wait to regear - now if I only knew which one ??? (Teasing) . Peace, bros - To each their own.
