How wide of tire are you putting on? Most people run around 4.5". Are you concerned about how far the tire will stick out? If so you should consider measuring offset instead. I think the stock tires have a 44.45mm offset.

The rims I am getting have a 10mm offset so 44.45 - 10mm = 34.45 mm which is 1.3" farther out.

Offset and Backspacing is one in the same. Offset just refers to the centerline, and backspacing is the measurement in inches from the back of the rim to the lug holes.

But it will still be determined on how wide the tire is.

Here is the link to a good thread.

Nope. Offset and BS is not one in the same. Several rims that have the same BS but different widths will have different offsets.

My 17x9 wheels have 5.5" backspacing, the offset is +12mm. They fit a 35x12.5 tires very well.

What is the width and offset of the wheels you are looking for?

You will probably find that most run 4.5" of back spacing. I have 4.75" and I rub a little with 12.5"x37" tires on my lower control arms at full lock.

If you want to find out exactly how much your tire will stick out then find out the rims offset and subtract it from 44.45mm. That is how much your centerline will be further out. Now if your new tire is 1" wider than the old tire then divide it by 2 and it will stick out that much further.

so if your new rim has an offset of 10mm then 44.45-10mm = 33.45mm/ 25.4 = 1.35"

+ .5" (for a 1" wider tire) = 1.85" farther out.

Backspacing does not mean anything without knowing the wheel width.

The formula for backspacing is: nominal width plus 1", divided by 2 (to get centerline), then add the offset (positive or negative).

4.75" backspacing on an 7.5" wheel will locate the tire under the JK at the same location of an 9" wheel with 5.5" backspacing.
