Question 5-link vs. tri-link

Having a bit of an older lift on my TJ, I never ran or knew anyone who had a tri-link set-up on their rig. On paper, the tri-link seems to offer several advantages (eliminating rear track bar, transferring torque vertically to the wheels vs. horizontally, etc..).

I believe Full Traction, Nth Degree, and Fab Tech all offer tri-links. Anyone here have real-world experience????

Cheers.........

Well, I guess you could technically call the Nth Degree setup a tri-link but as it's stinger does replace the upper control arms with a single 'boom' that attaches to the center of your axle but if memory serves me right, you still need a rear track bar with this setup.

As far as the Fabtech tri-link goes, I'm thinking they may need to do a little work in the R&D department before I'd buy one...

After doing a lot of my own research, I decided to go with a Full Traction long arm kit and I have to say their tri-link setup (and I'm sure any other setup like it) really does what it claims to do and I love it.

Granted, after seeing what all a JK can do with a 4" lift and 37's (i.e. Off Road Evolution's JK), I'm not so sure how eager I will be to upgrade to a long arm kit on mine. With a TJ, it was practiacally a must but if I can get away with not having to cut-up my new JK, I don't think I will

the arms look cut...did they snap off? Not seeing any deformation to indicate torsion failure at break...what happened?

Also, what difference did you notice with the Full Traction tri-link???

Yup, couldn't take the stresses being put on it and it snapped clean off. Notice the angle they broke in? I think the Full Traction tri-link and others like it have arms going straight back to the center pivot point (as opposed to parallel to each other first and then over) for a reason.

Over the RE 3.5" SuperFlex lift that I had before, a lot. I took my TJ out to Moab a week after installing it and it performed like a completely different Jeep. To put my finger on anything specific I think would require having driven on another similar setup for comparison sake.
