Aberle Offroad Aluminum Bumper
Mike at Aberle did mention that a rear bumper may well be a possibility. I will most assuredly get one if he does. I was going crazy with the factory mustache bumper, and I spent hours online checking out various bumpers. Aberle was the only one I found in aluminum...and just the weight savings alone for my pig JK was worth the $$$ (60.6 pounds versus close to or more than 100 for most steel bumpers). The only mods I had to do were to lengthen the wiring harness for the fogs and to drill and tap two 5/16 coarse thread holes for my license plate bracket (California busts people with no front plate every now and again). My favorite features, in addition to the weight, are how low the winch plate is located, the massive recovery hooks, the sleek design, no rust, and the way it blends with the rest of the Jeep.
Several folks have asked about the structural integrity of the aluminum versus steel, and about the aluminum bumper's ability to withstand a frontal blow. I'm no engineer, but looking at the somewhat flimsy JK frames (thin steel), and then again at the heft of my bumper, I'd wager that anything I hit with it would most likely bend my frame or transmit the brunt of the force to the rest of the vehicle.
I think this bumper has just the look I’m looking for. The only thing I think might be a down side is that if a rock slides on it, it will scratch. The scratches might be deep and will be there forever.
I like the looks of this bumper. Like said before, the weight saving alone would rank this bumper fairly high on my list.
Now, riknapora, we are going to need you to go wheeling and hit a few trees to end the "how well will it stand up to a tree" debate once and for all..............
Do you have a winch that you could put in to show how low it sits in relation to the grill? One of my biggest gripes is how many bumpers have the winch way up in front of the grill, obstructing air flow to the rad.
This might just be my new bumper......

Any possibility of a mid-width? I've never been a fan of stubbies, I think it makes the jeep look small, and I don't do a ton of rock crawling. Also, I thought there might be more than a 40lb difference. Any one know what some of the weights of the popular bumpers, they never seem to mention weight on catalogs.
