The only question you may ask that I can think of is "does this include just the gear set specific items, ring, pinion, crush sleeve and bearing. Or does it also include new axle seals.

It may be worth a little extra to you if you are getting new seals. I have heard and read of several instances where the seals failed with low miles.

Anyone know any good gear places in Tennessee?

I have 3.21's and close to 33's ................ it kind of sucks. Stall alot more than I should/would I think on the trail. Id like to have some 4.10 factory gears in my dana 30 front and dana 44 rear........... any one know where I can get some ?

Do you think this would void the powertrain warranty, I dont see how they would know unless they looked inside the diffs but i dont know lol

Thanks
Derek

IIRC, I paid ~$1500 (bought the gears and install kit myself through Northridge4x4, then brought them to a local 4x4 shop for the install). Not sure what brand gears you're considering, but thus far I've been happy with my Precision Gears.

I know $1500 is a tough pill to swallow, but they should give you years of fun if they're done right.

Edit: BTW, some shops won't warranty parts that the customer supplies, so you may want to buy the gears through the shop that'll do the install for you... just ask if they'll stand behind customer-supplied parts, before you buy.
Exactly right... I wouldn't want to let some tool bag who doesn't know what hes doing put my gears in. There is more involved in gearing/diff. work than most people realize (if you want it done right that is). Backlash measurements for proper wear patterns (keeping down un-wanted gear noise too), if they pressed carrier bearings in properly, getting pinion pre-load right so those carrier bearings last, measuring and installing shims, some have pinion crush sleeves that can't just be thrown on with an 1/2" impact gun... so if they're asking less than $1500 I'd be skeptical if I'd even want them under my bonnet. I didn't think about the warranty... awesome point. Those are some good questions to ask when going in. Some people change set ups and tires sizes and want a different gearing to match and pay for the installs more than one time, just plan your build properly for what you want... research it and do the install one time with a quality shop. =)

I was quoted $1800 for parts and install - going 3.21 to 4.88. I'm still working with them on the price - I've spent almost 6K there in the last 4 months, so I'm hoping that they will come down a little. I'm in there all the time, and they know that I'll end up spending the savings there anyway, so we'll see. I'd love to get them for $1500 - that way I could get the OBA that I am looking at the same time

Intresting that Moabjk got his for 1050 wen i priced them out at 4 wheel parts in vegas they were 1800. And, probably the biggest off road shop in vegas they really didnt know how to price them ended up getting three diff quotes because of a part or procedure that they werent terribly aware of. They told me that they had only done 2 sets prior and that one of the jks had to have custom drivelines installed because of vibration. Sooo not feeling good bout all of this, I went down the road to maxium off road they recommended the 513s had done a ton of them had a rubicon on the rack they were doing at the time and got them for 1500. Havent had an issue, it was obvious to me the mechanic knew his shit.
