IE:
she didn't want me changing my front bumper, but I want a winch, so I explained to her i could get a winch and spend 2-300$ on a plate or i can spend the extra funds on a bumper and save myself 2-300$ from breaking the bumper on a trail and having to buy a new one

Hope these small tricky techniques help you in the long run...
Best solution is to be single and buy whatever you want ;-)

And this is now exactly why I hate wayoflife now. I have spent 9,400 approx in upgrades since january, on my '12.. I wanted to take this month off from upgrades so I could start saving for my Dusy-Ershim trip in August.. and after seeing that post, and looking it up.. As well as having done an oil change from the directions on project-jk... And SAW just how thin and vulnerable the oil pan was... I couldn't resist any longer, lol

So I hate you. But I'm gonna love installing and using the skids. Haha.

I would look for rubi siders take offs. I have trials in Washington that arent real rock but they saved my can many times. Plus i got mine for $100. They make your jk more finished looking.

Solution: LoD sliders. I love mine. Super beefy protection, good looks, and the top side has built-in steps under the front and rear doors. They work great for standing on, even with their low profile. So she'll think they're steps for her, but really they're sliders for you.

I know. I spent a LONG time looking at sliders. PSC is what I was gonna go with, till I heard they can fold up against the body, sealing the door shut... Oops. Design flaw, big time. So I asked WoLs opinion. Now I have the LoDs and I'm super happy with them. Enough said!
