Advice wanted: Preparing for more hardcore rock crawling
I should probably revise my original topic from "hardcore" to just "harder". I'm not looking to go crazy. Just weekend warrior stuff. I like to challenge myself but I don't want to get into a situation where I can break something if I can help it. Just looking for the basics, but my mod budget is very limited.

i just did a complete overhaul and I got RCV axles up front and Dynatrac axles in the rear
i also got some custom drive shafts made, went with 4130 chromoly and had him use rather thick walled stock.
see if you can find an experienced drive shaft maker in your area.
these were great because I removed so much factory stuff, he too exact measurements.

Really I would not worry about driveshafts at 2" either and would not add a coil spacer to the set up as 2" is enough to run your 35" tires. If you don't want to break something on the trails you really have 3 choices: Build it like a tank which means $$$$, Know your limits and avoid harder obstacles, or don't run trails.
You are always at risk of breaking something when trying harder runs and it is usually due to driver error, picking a bad line, bouncing the jeep, or just not paying attention to your spotter.
Look at what people typically break on the trails that keep them from driving out. U-joints, axle shafts, ring and pinions, tie rods, and hydro locking the engine. Even built rigs will break theses items, that is why people carry spare parts with them on the trails

I`ll be running the JJUSA Rubicon Trail in 2015. I'm looking at installing 35" tires, Artec full armor kit, powerplant winch, and ball joints before I go and bringing front and rear driveshafts, axle and drive ujoints with me as backups. I'll be adding tie rod and steering stabilizer relocation bracket to my list.
