Default Aev lift question. What do i do with....

The transmission crossmember? I heard some people cut them so the front drive shaft doesn't hit.

Figured I'd ask before I sell it.

The crossmember skid will gouge the driveshaft. I have not seen any posts whatsoever of this causing the driveshaft to fail. Cut some notches, replace the metal band with a zip tie, add some washers to lower the skid, and/or replace with a narrower aftermarket.

The front shaft will also contact the corner of the tranny pan. This will rip the boot, which will cause the loss of grease. Not a big deal, as it is just the slip joint between the two halves of the driveshaft. The issue is that if you smack the tranny hard enough, you will bash it in and cause leaking, etc.

What you need to watch out for is the little boot at the tcase end of the shaft failing. It is not repairable, so once it starts losing grease, it is time to look into that new narrower double cardan.

The skid gouges the driveshaft.
The tranny tears the boot.
The angles destroy the joint at the tcase.

One thing not shown in the pic above is that he is also using a bunch of washers to lower the skid as well as notchng it.

My pc was giving me probs and the info that was supposed to go with the pic got deleted. Basically what nthinuf said is all correct, you can make it last a little while but you'll eventually need a new aftermarket one.
