I guess it depends what you think is a necessity. The Procal has a lot of features packed into it that help driveability and safety, so it was worth it for me.

Pain in the butt-- No. Totally easy to use. Comes with a nice instruction card that tells you how to flip the switches to program the Jeep.

The only problem I have, and I'm not sure if it's the procal or not, but I can't get my speedo to match my GPS. I have posted on other threads about the procal and the issue I have with it, so chech those out. As far as the rest of it, it works fine.

Once you are past the very steep learning curve for setting the dipswitches, it's a very useful tool.

For me, the Procal was much more accurate than the Flashpaq. Only change I had to make was to drop the tire size .25" from measured size, check the speedo, then drop another .25", to get the speedo to match gps. (which was just the half-assed way I measured, and wanting to drive and try it out rather than sit around and measure the right way). Never did get the flashpaq even close to gps speeds.

Default Finally!!!!!!

I got my speedo to match my GPS.......I am below the correct setting that my tires call for, but it works. Now I can leave my GPS locked up and know that I am dead on on the speedo!

I found the Procal very helpful and easy to do. Definitely the easiest way to adjust shift points if you have larger tires. I found it worth every penny.

If you have an automatic and have changed tire size I feel it is necessary not so much for an accurate speedo as it is for shift points and all the electronic controls.
Of course you get all the above. It was easy to use and I'm very glad I have it.

I'd have the procal and the superchips traildash and the procal is certainly more bang for you buck.

Easy to use, set it and forget, and just works.. (Only thing it has the superchips doesn't is custom tunes which really aren't all that great anyway)
