Default AEV Snorkel Options

Ok so for christmas i got a AFE CAI

I am looking at possibly returning and purchasing an AEV snorkel in its place.

My question is... I see that there is two seperate option with the snorkel. One has the prestage filter, and the other has the ram air deal, so whats the benefit of each? I like the way the pre filter looks...but will it work good for me? or is that something for only dry hot places?

Im unclear on this and was hoping for some info

Thanks so much for the help as usual

I have the pre-filter on mine. I can tell you it catches all kinda crap that otherwise would go right into my filter. I think if you have dusty areas to drive in the pre-filter is a great way to go.

Well thats always nice

But would there be a downfall to having one in such a wet place as florida? Like is it just always good? or is there a downfall to having it in certain places?

I have no experience with the Ram air top. I do know there is no way in hell that water from rain or splashing or anything else could get through the pre-filter......short of sticking a hose up in it, it is completely waterproof.

I built a Snorkel for my last truck when I lived in Florida and used an ARB Scoop for the top. I NEVER had any issues in the rain even on the highway. and after a whole Year of driving my filter in the airbox still looked almost brand new, had a little road duest on it that just wiped right off!!! Scoop is the way to go IMHO... Thats what will be going on my Jeep.

I am running the ram air setup. I did not want the pre filter, I just cant get past the look of it.

No problems here with the ram air at all. I have driven a lot in the rain and snow, all good.

Most trail dust is picked up down low, not up high, so any snorkel will increase the life of your filter. But, the pre-filter will incease it more, but it is also 1 more thing to clean and maintain. I would rather just have 1 filter myslef.

I went with the Ram air set up as well. I can just turn the ram air scoop 180 during the high dust area.

I have the dust filter thing, drove for hours in a downpour on the way out to Moab over thanksgiving, and it did pick up a little bit of water in there (3/4" sitting in the bottom maybe?) but I just dumped it out the next day -- no biggie. I can't see having any issues at all with using it in wetter climates.

Probably mostly comes down to looks honestly...
