Default afe stage II intake whistle

I just got an afe c.a.i. The one that comes with a new complete enclosure, not an open intake. I put it on, and now when I am accelerating or have the cruise control set it whistles. I have checked all of the boots to make sure everything is tight, which everything is. I talked to afe, and they said to drill the inlet for the crankcase ventilation out the next size bigger drill bit. I did that a couple of times with no change. I have called them back, but am waiting for a response. Curious if anybody else has had this problem with any other intakes, and if so, did you fix it? how?

...What kind of whistle? A high pitched squeel or just a very loud whoosing like a shop-vac?

All CAI's are going to yield a very loud suction sound over a stock air intake.

I guess you could describe that sound as a whistle, although I wouldn't. The only whistling I've ever heard is when they are used in conjunction with Throttle Body Spacers (A fairly useless add-on).

If you truly feel that it is a high pitched whistle tighten down your throttle body bolts and check for leaks, that's the only thing I can think of.

I tried two different aftermarket intakes, afe being one of them. They both whistled, and it drove me nuts. I got rid of both of them, they are a waste of money IMO. If you are dead set on an aftermarket intake, get used to the whistle. If you have it, it will not go away.

No its not the low pitch intake sound that comes from a big filter. its just that high pitch squeal. almost like its coming through a hole smaller then the eye can see! I have an afe filter on my cummins and does great. But if you took yours off cause you couldn't get rid of it? dang! im gonna be mad! I was hoping the new enclosure style would be better then just an open one. apparently I was wrong!!! Still waiting to hear back from afe. see if they have any other tricks. wish me luck!

C.A.I. is officially off! That drove me absolutely nuts. I even turned the radio all the way up, and it still got on my nerves! I talked to afe again, they had no more advice. I tried pulling the vent line of and plugging the intake port and putting a cleaner on the crankcase vent. That helped a little. but not enough. I got it off in 10 min. and put the stock back in. I am just gonna use a replacement k&n. Anybody know someone hard of hearing or just wants a really nice c.a.i.!? Haha! I will probably just eat this one and throw it in the trash, and not put this p.o.s. on anyone else. Thanks for your info guys.

It could have been the heat shield. I looked @ the AFI Stage 2 stock photo's and it appears their shield wouldn't sit flush with all the edges of the hood/engine bay. It also has a funky shape

My K&N heat shield sits full flush w/all contact areas and has a LARGE amount of rubber baffling. You could try reconnecting just the air tube and filter, give it a good revving and check to see if the whistle is gone.

I'm with you on this one because I tried one of those of units for a few weeks. I noticed a difference in throttle response but no improvement in power going up grades or MPG and the noise was ... However, you will probably make somebody's day locally, if you given them a deal.

I have the Banks Ram Air intake and i only experience the whistle when the gas pedal is pushed down 1/4 of the way, less or more and there is no whistle.

the one I had was the stage II SI it had a new enclosed housing. It didn't have mating surfaces with the hood or engine compartmen. It was kind of a stock style replacement air box.
