After regearing help
I'm of the opinion it "probably" does not matter. That said, is there any downside to following the break-in reccomendation? Not that I see, so why even debate it? Drive it 20 miles let it cool? Change the fluid after 500 miles? Seems such a none issue why wouldn't you do it? to each their own.
Sounds like a plan... if you do a complete overhaul every week or so like the drag racers do!
As Goin' Postal said earlier, the engine and drive train ARE broken in at the factory. They use special fluids and dynamometer jigs to control torques and stresses during the accelerated break-ins of each component.
My replacement gear manufacturer (Motive) included break in instruction with my new gears. If you don't want to follow the manufacturer's instructions that is up to you. If the manufacturer voids your warranty as a result that is up to them. Ask your buddy if he will warranty anything more than his labor for 90 days.
