Default Air Compressor and Tank

Curious to see if anyone has done this (with pics if possible): Could you mount this compressor http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/Product/Pr-p_Product.CATENTRY_ID:2012883/c-10101/Nty-1/p-2012883/Ntx-mode+matchallpartial/N-10101/tf-Browse/s-10101/Ntk-AllTextSearchGroup?Ntt=Air+COmpressor"]http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/Product/Pr-p_Product.CATENTRY_ID:2012883/c-10101/Nty-1/p-2012883/Ntx-mode+matchallpartial/N-10101/tf-Browse/s-10101/Ntk-AllTextSearchGroup?Ntt=Air+COmpressor on the rear inside wheel well and hard wire it? Then if you also included a tank in teh back, could you use this to fill the tank and have it ready to go? Might be stupid questions - just trying to figure out if it would work. Thanks guys!

I relocated my muffler and I am going to mount a slim 3 gallon tank and a viar air compressor where the muffler was. Nothing will hang as low as the stock muffler was hanging.

So that might also answer another question I had. I'm finding some Viair systems at reasonable prices complete with pressure switches, on / off switch, dash mounted guage, fittings, etc. that look to be complete, but....they are mounted together. Is it possible to mount the compressor somewhere and the tank elsewhere and just plumb them with HD air lines? Maybe put a quick connect mounted in the rear whell well (inside) so that you could just plug an airline in there and go? (Does that make sense?) Thanks guys!

Yes, you can do that. I'm putting a system together and doing that. I wanted to mount my compressor under the hood, but I can't find a good place. I'm gonna put the compressor on the rear wheelwell so it will be out of the weather. I'll put the tank under the body somewhere, probably along the frame rails.

That's exactly what I want to do. Take pics! Let me know how it works and if you run into any problems. If you don't already have the system I 'll send you some links....

I was looking at the VIAIR kits as well.
I was looking at making a bracket to mount it on the cross member just behind the radiator. There is plenty of room between the rad. and engine. My concern is that the heat from the rad. blowing across it will have the comp to hot. Air flow is good but 200 deg. air could be bad. Does anyone know if the comp has thermal protection? Also the comp can be mounted side ways.

I mounted our viair compressor in the front bumper and the tank where the muffler used to be. I have the air coupler right next to the hitch. It worked out really well. I am thinking about a skid for the tank though, its just asking to be hit

oh, and when I get a real bumper, I plan on moving the compressor on top of the crash bar, I saw a pic of that setup somewhere on here awhile ago

Edit: and if you are planning on relocating stuff, get extra 1/4" compression fittings, the viair kits only come with enough to mount everything together.

Default Compressor and Tank Mounting

Alright, so it seems I'm not alone here...Where have folks found they can mount the components? I'm not averse to mounting the compressor on the rear interior wheel well, but I really don't want the tank to take up all the rear storage room (girlfriend, dog, kids soon, etc.). Also, anyone have a good wiring / plumbing write up or diagram? I started my Jeepin' with CJ so I have a little know-how, but am a little nervous about an OBA system with the 12V and relays and pressure switches and oh my.

Just to say, this forum is awesome and has already helped me out tremendously!
