I broke my front axle (Dana 44) over the weekend and I am wanting to upgrade to Alloy axles. I was told that they are using U-joints from the factory and no one is making an upgraded u-joint .
is this true???
Thanks for your help.

When I talked to Superior about upgrading my front axles they told me that their alloy axles use the same joint as the earlier dana 44. Not the larger one that the JK Rubicon uses. He has not had any failures at the joint come back for warantee other than extreme abuse. Call Mac in the Tech department at Superior for more info. He seams to know all the latest info. They are thinking about retooling for the new JK U-joint but it has not been developed yet.

Well what are you trying to do? You are correct there are no upgraded U-joints for the stock JK Rubicon Axles. The Alloy Superior Axles use the old Dana 44 U-joint and make them full circle clips. These are smaller than the stock Rubicon u-joint but end up being stronger because the axles are alloy and the ears are less likely to deform and pop the cap. And the full circle clip is a better retainer also. The best design would be an alloy shaft with the new Rubicon joint, that is what they have not developed yet. I am hoping to hold out until that axle comes out.
I was not aware of the CTM, but you would still not have an alloy shaft.

Thanks guys I think I understand now
the Alloy axles use smaller ears so I can use a full Circle Clip U- joint. Just not a full circle clip with stock axles.
You can still modify your stock axles for full circle clips and the larger u-joint, but the ears may still deform. Superior just has not developed the new casting for the JK u-joint and are using the old dana 44 casting. The tooling is very expensive and the way times are right now were not sure when they were going to make the investment.

Can you get the Alloy shafts? I was told they are no longer doing business and 4 Wheel Parts bought them out. I did here they had the shafts with the bigger U-Joint for the JK, but do not know anyone who has a set.
