Default Am I crazy?

I'm considering re-gearing my Jeep. I currently have 3.73s,an auto and stock 255/75/17 tires.

With the auto I'd go all out with 5.13s. I only have 8500 miles on my tires so I won't be getting new ones for probably 2 years.

When I do get new tires I'll go 33s,maybe 34s. Really no desire to go 35s.

Higher RPM doesn't scare me in the least.

I know most guys would be freaked out about 5.13s and 32" tires.

No guts,no glory?

I was about to scream NO DON'T DO IT... but then I checked the chart:

https://www.jk-forum.com/forums/show...276#post211276

Apparently having an automatic transmission makes a HUGE difference in the RPMs you would have ran. A standard transmission would have been close to 3,200 RPMs in 6th and going 70MPG. An automatic looks to be around 2,300... huge difference.

If you are eventually going with 33s or 34s but want to re-gear today, I see no reason why you wouldn't go ahead and do the 5.13s. I see no sense in paying for something twice, plus you'll get benefit from the gears immediately.

I say go for it

Just do it. This is coming from the driver of a 6 SPEED 2010 Sport that just turned over 4000 miles and for half its mileage has had 5.13 gears on 32" tires. With an auto, it's a no brainer.

I would wait until you are going to change the tires. Who knows, you might wreck it or sell it in the next two years.

Of course I could always drive with O/D off and essentially turn about the same RPM as I would be with 5.13s.

Then I'd only be using 3 of the 4 gears available though.

I would say wait for the new tires first... especially if the new ones wont be installed for a while.

I would go for 4.88 if no 35'' tires and install right away.

I'm running 33's (295/75-16's) with an auto trans 4.10's & it does pretty well. If I were to pick a perfect gear for it, It'd be 4.56's or 4.88's

Looking at the chart the 5.13's don't look that bad. I like the RPM's around 2200 for 70mph hwy cruising, just sounds more relaxed.
