Default Another Drive Shaft Question...

I've gone through the forums and can't quite find the answer I'm looking for. Sorry if there is already a thread on this topic.

Anyway, I've got a 3" Long Arm kit on my JK. The shop was supposed to put a new front drive shaft on when they did the install but didn't. It's going in on monday to get the work done, but I had a question. I started hearing a bit of a grinding sound. I only hear it when I first take off from a stop or on slow turns. I'm pretty sure that the noise is coming from the drive shaft, I just want to make sure no damage is being done elsewhere like the transfer case.

This is the boot I'm talking about. I know it's torn because it's throwing grease.

How long have you had your lift on? Once the boot is torn and grease has been thrown out, your CV joint wont last long. The easiest way to check this is to remove your front drive shaft to be sure that this is where the noise is coming from.

Did you pay them to supply and install a new shaft? Did you supply the shaft and them not install? Dont sound like a good shop unless you didnt pay them to replace the shaft.

I had everything done at once: lift, gears, sleeves, gussets, and for some reason they didn't put the drive shaft on. They supplied it and were supposed to install it all at the same time. Any issues with taking the front drive shaft off and driving without it?

And I've had the lift on for a few months but didn't get any noise until this week. That's when I crawled under it to try and pinpoint the issue and noticed the grease.

This is the fastest way to rule out the DS as the issue. Simple to do and would at least rule out the DS is the noise goes away.

Did you look to see if your front driveshaft is hitting your exhaust anywhere? On some of the other lift sites modifications are needed to the exhausts for clearence in the newer model JK's. No experience with this just throwing it out there! Also do you have an Automatic? The drive shafts are larger thats why they need replacing for real flexing or they will rub!

I know AEV recommends modifying the exhaust crossover to prevent rubbing.

Found multiple culprits to the noise. The first was the 02 sensor above the driver's side cat. It was loose and was the loudest of the rattles. The drive shaft sounds good now with the replacement. The last noise that was bothering me turns out to be the exhaust touching the lower control arm on the driver side. With the long arm kit, if the angle is just right, it touches the control arm and makes a low pitch rattle/grinding noise. It only does it when I first take off (low RPMs) or if I'm turning just right or flexing just right. I can live with it since I know it's not going to do any damage.
