Another question about gearing for 35" tires
OK. I know there is a lot of info/opinions about proper gearing for 35" tires on a JK. I am considering a JKU, Pentastar 3.6, auto. My rationale is that I would like to have a vehicle with 35" tires that handles as close to stock on the highway as possible. I would like to have the rpm at 70 mph be similar to a wrangler jku with 3.73 gearing and tow package. My math going from a 265 tire (approx 32") to a 315 tire (approx 34.5") would put that proper gear ratio at right around 4:1 ? So many say to go 5.13. Seems like it might have great power in stop and go traffic, but rev pretty high on the freeway. Maybe 4.56?
I am debating Rubicon for the 4.10 gearing. I don't really need the lockers. I could probably build up a dana 30, and the gearing I really want for a lot less than the Rubicon upgrade, which includes stuff I don't need.
Probably gonna buy used.
2"-3" lift. Teraflex, or old man emu.
If Dana 30, I would likely Truss it, as well as any other necessary bracing.
Don't expect to do any hard wheeling. Muddy hunting trails, maybe a trip or two to Silver Lake Sand Dunes.

I have 4.56 and think I should have 4.10 sometimes on the highway.
Don't get me wrong, the 4.56 is amazing, but the gas mileage is crap, it's a Jeep.
I didn't do anything to my Dana 30 and the dealer is fine with the mods I have, so I'm happy.
I wheel the heck out of it and get out about every 2 weeks or less.
I love the trail Grapplers and 4.56 combo for my use.

If you're concerned about mpg and rpm at 70mph I would not go any higher than 4.10 with an auto. My 2014 Rubicon with 4.10 and auto revs around 2500 at 70mph and gets around 15mpg. But, if I go 80 revs are 2800 and about 12-13 mpg. 3" lift with 35 x 12.5 mud terrains.
Thank you, thank you.
I read so many times " 4.88 is great, wish I had gone 5.13", but that is low...
You guys have helped reassure my suspicions.
I want a daily driver, Sunday cruiser, camping with young children expedition vehicle. No rock crawling, no mud bogging.
I'd love to go with 4.56, but will probably be most content with 4.10 once I hit the freeways.

And for what I want, the you looks real nice on 35" .
Now do I save for a Rubicon, or buy a sport, gear it, and beef up Dana 30. Probably all i need. I think I can do gears, tires, wheels, and lift for what Rubicon package will cost additionaly.
