Default Any way to reach the top of the front shocks?

I'm unable to tighten down one of my front shocks, when I try to tighten the nut it spins the road in the shock. I've tried holding the rod with vice grips, but it still spins. If I could reach the top of the shock, I should be able to lock it in place and spin it, but I can't fit 2 wrenchs by going underneath into the little hole above the shock, any ideas?

r these stock shocks ???

if so right in the wheel well there is a welded nut on the top of the shock and then you put a gear wrench to that then tighten the top nut

other brands it is little tougher most come w/t the top of them cut straight

use some needle nose vise grips on the top and the gear wrench to tighten the nut

hope this gives you an idea

They are aftermarket, I'm just having a real tough time getting two tools up into that little sleeve so I can hold it with one and turn with the other. These have the little rectangle for a head on them, is there a specialty tool I can get to cap it off to hold it still at the angle that you have to go to get to it from underneath?

Jack up the vehicle by the frame, not the axle and you will have plenty of room to work on it. You can use a hi-lift for this or floor jack with a 4x4 usually or place the jack on some wood to get to desired heigth.

Jacking it up won't increase the area above the shock tower will it? I'm referring to the top bolt that's ontop of the shock tower that has about 2-4" of clearence.

This may not be the preferred option, but I'd try to find two 1/4" thick pieces of rubber and then use some vice grips to clamp the shock shaft (using the rubber between the shaft and the grips)

When I put in my aftermarket shocks, I just grabbed the shaft with my hand and used a wrench on the top. Then again, I may have a really strong grip....

Ratchet end wrenches are great also for tight places, I used a hand towel wrapped around the shaft and a pair of vise grips.
