Anyone using a DashCommand App to monitor engine data?
I stumbled across an Android App made by Palmer Performance Engineering called "DashCommand." It appears to monitor everything you could ever want to monitor on your Jeep and then some! In fact, for $49.95 it sounds too good to be true. I have ZERO experience with this type of an app. I am curious if anyone is running this app, and if so, what do you think about it??
Some of the features of this app:
Performance gauges:
- engine speed
- corrected vehicle speed
- open/closed loop
- boost/vacuum combo gauge
- acceleration (and braking)
- power with optional drag correction (air & tire)
- torque
Fuel economy gauges:
- inst. fuel economy
- avg fuel economy
- avg fuel economy over 3 time periods
- distance to empty
- time to empty
- fuel level %
- fuel remaining in tank
- fuel flow rate gauge
Engine gauges:
- timing (spark advance)
- engine coolant temp.
- intake air temp.
- ambient air temp.
- manifold absolute pressure
- mass air flow
- fuel trims, short and long term
- percent engine load
- catalyst temp.
- fuel pressure
- lambda gauge
- air/fuel ratio
DashCommand also contains a sophisticated trip computer that maintains stats for up to 5 trips.
- distance travelled
- fuel consumed
- avg fuel economy
- fuel cost
- elapsed time
- drive time
- average carbon dioxide emission rate
- total carbon dioxide emission
- start date & time
- number of fillups
- avg fuel flow rate
- avg driving speed
- avg trip speed
- avg boost/vacuum
- avg engine speed
- max acceleration
- max engine power and torque at wheels
- number of stops
- max fuel flow rate
- max speed
- idle time
- max boost/vacuum
- max engine speed
- max braking acceleration
- max engine torque
And many more features. Like I said, the ability to monitor all of the above by using your cell phone and for $49.95 sounds too good to be true. Also, if anyone is running a different app to monitor Jeep vitals, then let's here about it! I was looking into a three gauge pod set up when I discovered this app. With all the things this app claims it can do, and for less money than a three gauge pod, I owe it to myself to look into this technology. Thanks in advance for any feedback!

Does this price include the Bluetooth dongle you will need to buy to attach to the OBD port?
I'm using the Bully Dog's Triple Dog GT, which is also a programmer. Superchips just released the Vivid, which does this and is also a programmer. But both are way more expensive. Even though I do not know how much the dongle, included with both, costs.

The Bully Dog tuner has the trans temp. It's one of the parameters I set for monitoring. It also lets us set an alarm in case it goes above a value we choose.
Does not have oil pressure though. I'm wondering if we need to install a sensor for this one.

the Google Play store has Torque which will monitor most functions, speed, and all available engine sensors. The trans temp is NOT accurate, as it extrapolates the data from the coolant temp (assuming it is the same, which we know it is not). However, you can make many different screens with GPS, altitude, barometric pressure, performance data, etc.
If you just want Coolant, ACCURATE transmission temperatures, and air intake temperatures, I would recommend the Drive app (search Drive02 in the google play store).
Both are less than $5 and you just need a bluetooth adapter and a right angle OBDII cord if you want to mount the bluetooth adapter under the dash.

To op, i stumbles across it on my ipad and the wifi obd-II thing costs $180, still, i habe my doubts so i was trying to research this as well. It would be nice to maximize mpg, set a stop on the thermostat, programme rev limiters for 4 lo. The possibilities are endless. Im going to run it on my ipad using the cop4x4 mount.
Best of luck!
