ARB Compressor gets really hot
I installed the new arb HO compressor, i got from Dave at Northridge, under the hood with the supplied bracket. I pumped up all four of my 35" tires from 20psi to 35psi with no problems. It took around a minute or two per tire to get them to 35psi. When i was finished i went to unhook the hose from the compressor and the coupler was friggin HOT
. Then, being the dumbass that i am, i touched the small tank on the compressor and it immediately burnt my finger (ouch!). Well, i learned that time
My question is: should this thing be getting this hot after it has run for several minutes? Also, it was not hot from driving, it had been sitting for awhile before i aired up.

While I don't have an ARB compressor, I just have a harbor freight one. It does get pretty hot while pumping up my tires. I'd say it's normal but don't have any experience with the ARB's. You gotta think that little piston is moving pretty quick with little or no lubrication.
Yup, nature of the beast. When you compress air it gets hot. These little compressors don't have any capacity to do a high volume of air so they do a small volume at very high pressures; the result is a lot of heat.

Can't comment on your ARB, but the owners manual for my quick air 2 had a big CAUTION in bold letters:
I'll bet that if you read yours, there will be a similar caution...
The QuickAir2 gets very hot during normal use. Never touch the compressor or quick disconnect during or immediately after use. etc.
