Here's a pic that shows where it goes:

The heat shield comes in two halves, you press them together from opposite sides of the fitting to make a complete ring around it. You may have to put some zip ties through the holes to keep the two pieces together.
Then, all you have to do is press down on the heat shield, and the hose pops right off!

Hang on a few minutes, I'll dig up a pic of mine with the shield installed...
EDIT: OK here's mine. You can see where I used two small white zip ties to assemble it:
