Default Aussie Locker & 3.21 Gears

I have just ordered an Aussie Locker for the JK Dana 30 front end. I currently have 3.21 gears and an open carrier. I don't know a ton about differentials to begin with but I am trying to learn more. From what I understand this install isn't too complicated and I should be able to do it in my garage. I do plan on re-gearing eventually but not for a little while as funds have not built up enough in the Jeep account.

The main things I need to know are:
1. Do I need any additional parts (new carrier, etc.) to install the Aussie Locker than what is already in my Dana 30?

2. If you have done this install do you have any hints or tricks that can help me out?

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Before my regear I ran 321s and the Aussie. Nothing special is needed, it works with the 321 carrier just fine. I will say have a lap top in your garage and follow the write up on the forum as well as the directions from Aussie. It was my first time opening the diff and pulling the carrier and it felt like heart surgery.... Plan for an all day job.
Good luck

Agreed!

Also, just to elaborate for the OP, the JK Aussie should work for you after you re-gear as well. Your gear should will need to install a new carrier, but the Aussie should be easily transferred to your new carrier when you re-gear.

Congrats on the Aussie

Hey Guys, thanks for the input so far. The write up I've found is for a TJ but it still was installed on a Dana 30 front end.

The link is: http://www.4x4xplor.com/aussielocker.html

I figure since the Dana 30 is used on both the TJ and the JK then there shouldn't be any major differences right?

If this is the write up you used for install on the JK and you did find differences could you let me know?

I installed one last month, it was an easy install. I just used the instructions that came with the locker.

For those of you that have installed an Aussie locker in your JK front end are there any different steps or tools needed than what this write up lists other than trading the stock thrust washers with the blue ones from Aussie?

I plan on doing this this weekend and I want to be prepared.

Just make sure you reinstall all the components in EXACTLY the same configuration and keep everything CLEAN. Taking pictures before you start and labeling all the pieces is a good idea. You will need a feeler gauge to take gap measurements. Having a good bench vice to hold the differential carrier when you are tightening/loosening the ring bolts is also helpful. A long, thin punch is needed to get the roll pin out. Make sure all the pins and springs are completely seated in the new Aussie Locker. I had to use a crowbar to get the carrier out of the housing. It was wedged in there tight, just be careful it doesn't fall out on the ground when it lets go.
