Default Right On

Thanks for the input. Sounds like a great investment. From what I have heard, Aussie stands behind the product 100%. Customer service makes a great product, excellent! Right on everyone.

The Aussie locker CAN be driven safely on ice and in snow if you are careful and have practice doing it. The locker is only engaged in 4WD but it still tends to push the steering out when going around tight turns because the tires are not freewheeling like an open differential. I try to stay in 2WD on slippery roads and let the BLD work in the rear. If I need 4WD I go slow and straight and I've never had any traction problems. I still would recommend a selectable locker if you do a LOT of snow and ice driving. However, the Aussie is a very reliable locker that is tough to beat for off-road traction.

i have been running an aussie locker in my front d30 since june 07 without any problems. i have 76,000 miles on my 4dr jk and roughly 70,000 on the aussie locker. you do have to take it easy in the snow and ice, but if you ease into it and take your time it will be alright.

Are the adverse handeling effects in snow and ice only in 4WD? Or do you have to take it east in 2WD also?

You should ease into it in 2wd and 4wd with snow and ice. The aussie will give you a slight push feeling in snow/ice. It is hard to explain it. If you install one, take it to a field or empty parking lot covered in snow and ice and practice turning and driving at low speed to get a feel for how the locker effects your steering. It will be different, but it is not something that is difficult to deal with, it just changes the handling characteristics some. I doubt this helps much, but as I said earlier, I have been very happy with mine.
