Default Aussie Locker installed

Finished installing some new toys this weekend. First, I installed an Aussie Locker in the front diff. I highly recommend following WOL's write up on this. His directions were wonderful. The only difficult part that I encountered was getting the carrier out of the housing. It requires a little finnese, a pry bar and a 4lb shop hammer. Actually, the install took several hours because I was doing it alone, but it wasn't that difficult.

Next, I switched to Royal Purple motor oil and went with a K&N oil filter. I used the K&N because I couldn't remember the Mobil 1 oversized filter number when I was at the auto parts store. Next time I will remember the part number!

I did all of this on Sunday. Today I was able to test out the new setup after work. Yes, it was horrible, I had to work a half day today:( On the upside, I have a wonderful wheeling area at work. We just cleared several hundred acres for a refuse dump (to put slate rock into) and it has steep hills, drop offs, big rocks, mud and all the other fun stuff

The new locker works great!!! I noticed the increased traction right away. There is a slight ratcheting noise at full turn, but I can't really hear it over the Magnaflow exhaust and the AEM intake. The locker is very quite.

I think that I am going to be very happy with it!

BTW- If any of you ever wheel around slate or near an old refuse dump, be careful. The slate can be like driving over knives, it isn't very tire friendly. We haven't started using the clearing I was at today, so I was safe from severe tire damage, at least from slate. lol!

It is very quite,....slight clicking hard lock to lock turns but it's nothing. Love it for the price and trying out at CampJeep in July...can't wait. I guess Winter Time will be a dab different, but not worried.

I am looking forward to Camp Jeep as well. I am hoping for a few more upgrades before July. I think that the Aussie up front and the LSD in te rear will give me very acceptable traction. Now if I can just figure out which winch bumper to get...

I'll keep an eye out for your rig at camp as well. I am very familar with PA plates, I moved to Alabama from Pittsburgh just a few years ago.

Looking forward to seeing some pics with the new bumper!

Can someone explain (or get me a link) how a locker like this works. I understand the diff between a LSD and the lockers on a Rubicon, but nobody has ever explained this type to me. Why so bad/different in the snow?

Thanks!

They aren't bad in the snow. An auto locker unlike a manual locker is locked all the time except when turning, that is why you hear the clicking sound. It is the ratcheting of the locker letting you know it is unlocked. I ran Detroit lockers front and rear in my Yj, they are automatic lockersa and I never had a problem driving in snow or ice. Snow and ice driving takes a little inteligence, you need to slow down.

Like alway's, > great explanation in your response above, and the Locker is going to help way more this winter than a threat to drive.
